Dear friends,

December’s come with winds that blow

It’s cold and wet but still no snow…(Killavey 2004)

December is pretty mild here in Newport County. We may get one or two cold days but don’t get lots of snow this time of year. Don’t get me wrong though,we have had many a “White Christmas” here and its beautiful.

I saw Santa last night. Every year local volunteers help him visit every street in town during December. He sits in his sleigh which is placed on a flat bed truck. The reindeer stay home to rest up for their big night. Loud holiday music and lights announce his coming. There is also a map posted at the local supermarket that parents check to see when he will be on their street.

Young and old alike stop to wave and smile when they encounter him on the town streets. Santa stops to give out candy to anyone waiting to greet him in his travels. It gives my heart of lift to think of all the planning, cooperation and volunteer hours that go on to make this happen each year.

Hope your holiday season is filled with smiles, hugs and events to make your heart light as well.
